Until humanity frees itself from maladaptive motivations and behaviors, it will be just like a family that endlessly repeats the same arguments until someone learns to stand outside the situation and stop their habitual reactions. Humanity will continue to be trapped in the endless and useless repetition of maladaptive behaviors until we can stand outside our current desires and motivations. To be able to intervene in the world to advance the evolutionary process, we need to be able to move at right angles to our evolutionary past. For this we will have to develop a degree of psychological distance from our desires and motivations.

It is worth underlining that this cannot be achieved simply by making an intellectual decision to do so. While ever our desires and motivations continue to dominate our behavior, any intellectual decision will be utterly ineffective.

To free ourselves from our biological past and social conditioning, we will need to develop an entirely new capacity. Without this, the transition to intentional evolution cannot proceed. Intentional evolutionaries know that until they develop such a capacity, they will know how they should live their life, but will be unable to do so.

What is spiritual awakening ?

A spiritual awakening is an awareness of what is the truth or reality. That's not extremely valuable at all, is it? It's simply this side of circular logic, "awareness of what is real." Okay. Let's try another one. It's reconnecting to you and the divine, which are ultimately one and the same. From the point of view of the mind, a spiritual awakening provides you a clearer understanding of what is real versus exactly what is illusory. You might perceive all things that are not real, and when you get down to it, just about everything is not real. The preliminary awakening is earth-shattering for the majority of people due to the fact that they begin to see how they bought into a specific way of living, decided some things was necessary and others were not, and so on. The fundamentals of life also became very easy as the focus naturally moves in the direction of things like unconditional love, truth, and honesty to others. In awakening, it means giving up and letting go of of illusions about who you thought you are.

How do I spiritually awaken ?

Spiritual awakening is not an special sense of experience or state. It is not a goal or destination we should go after or somewhere to reach in the future. As the Buddha was attempting to tell us (though couple of actually listened), it is not a superhuman achievement or attainment. You do not have to take a trip to India to find it. It is not a special state of excellence reserved for the fortunate or the privileged few. It is not an unique club. It is not an out-of-body experience, and it does not involve living in a cave, shutting down all your beautiful senses, removing yourself from the facts of this modern-day world. It can not be transmitted to you by an fancy bearded (or non-bearded) guru, nor can it be taken away or lost. You do not need to end up being anyone's disciple or follower, or give away all your possessions. You do not have to join a cult. You do not need to follow anyone.
